You know, sometimes it's great to be wrong. Last week I was feeling gloomy after the first set of New Hampshire towns voted overwhelmingly for the non-binding petition ("warrant article") that asked their state legislators to put an anti-marriage equality constitutional amendment on the statewide ballot. Although most towns voting on March 9th did pass the bigoted article, I incorrectly extrapolated that result to the entire state. How happy I am today to read that, as we factor in the results from towns that had town meeting yesterday, March 13th, 77% of New Hampshire towns and cities have rejected the call to put discrimination into their constitution!
Final numbers have yet to be posted, but here are the stats to-date:

I would like to (a) amplify the update that Lurleen noted this past week from Dean Barker, the editor of our Granite State blog Blue Hampshire - that one shouldn't be distraught over some towns voting to support a referendum on the marriage equality law that went into effect two months ago - as well as highlight one town's response yesterday that should .... well, bring a smile to PHB readers.
(more after the jump) ... Town Meeting Day is a sight-to-behold here in New England; democracy in the true sense of the word. Voters actually approve/reject articles concerning the purchase of items such as tractors or fire alarm upgrades, all the way to school budgets.

In a week ago Saturday's (March 6, 2010's) San Antonio Express, I read that the police officer that was charged with raping a trans woman recently has now been accused of raping another:
Two days after a San Antonio police officer was arrested and accused of rape, another person has complained he was the victim of a sexual assault by the on-duty officer, Police Chief William McManus said.
McManus said the man alleged Officer Craig Nash, 39, assaulted him sometime in the summer of 2008.
Police spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez was unable to provide further details of the allegation Friday.

It's just time to do some fun, mindless chatting about commercials. Most are forgettable, and a lot of them are memorable. The ones I remember most are usually paired with interesting music or visuals that are compelling, and of course, are funny.
Many times, favorite commercials tend to be ones we remember from childhood, or nowadays, are targeted. I think what's pretty interesting is how marketing has changed over the years -- it's obviously more sophisticated in some ways, more annoying in other ways -- obvious manipulation, screaming pitchmen/women, and the godawful commercials for local businesses.
Anyway, here's a couple that I'm fond of.

The United Sates is currently involved in two wars. Is the president out to destroy our military? Can any thinking American wish to see an "open" cross-dressing homosexual Army general trying to gain the trust of his troops (or for that matter, the nation)? Have we as a nation fallen so far that we need to apologize to Sodom?
~David A. Noebel, in the WorldNetDaily article Ready for cross-dressing Army generals?
Okay, I frequently see the conflating of gay and transgender, but WingNutDaily's David A. Noebel has ramped up wingnuttery by a factor of elevendy-billion. Seriously, the guy has got some serious fear-mongering going relating to repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

We're really heading into weird territory now. In what is supposed to be a defense of Pope Benedict from accusations of covering up pedophile priest cases, the Vatican spokesbots are handling this with complete ineptitude.
The Vatican spokesman, speaking to Vatican Radio and Associated Press Television News, defended Benedict.
"It's rather clear that in the last days, there have been those who have tried, with a certain aggressive persistence, in Regensburg and Munich, to look for elements to personally involve the Holy Father in the matter of abuses," the Rev. Federico Lombardi told Vatican Radio.

Jennifer Vanasco, editor in chief at 365gay.com, kindly dropped the Blend a line to say that video from the bull session with Ted Olson and David Boies at the NYT's offices has been released. I completely agree with what she said here (and wish I could have been there to see it):
Even if you've read stories about the evening, Boies and Olson speak with such passion and persuasion that the video is worth watching. Being in the same room with them was like being in the presence of history.
